As I explain to all my male dancers ballet was started by men, however with the current ballet world being dominated by female dancers we still see men in the top rolls. Women continue to stay back stage to male choreographers and artistic directors. As both a female choreographer and artistic director I want all my students to see themselves as creative talent not just dancers.
For years we have had a poster in corner 2 of one of the most recognized dancers in history, Mikhail Baryshnikov. At 67, a true inspiration for dancers to keep dancing for life. Enjoy this story on his next adventure.
With new relations between Cuba and the US, the ballet community is hoping to see exchanges with Cuban dancers. Many Cuban dancers have come to the States to find more opportunity but want to return home with their companies.
Cuba’s main company, Ballet Nacional de Cuba is world famous for its award winning dancers and training. In Cuba ballet dancers are just a famous as our sports players, and inspire audiences all over.
